Last month, 31 members of the SynthImmune community came together in Heidelberg for the first annual Early Career Researcher (ECR) Retreat, held October 22nd-23rd.

The two-day program combined scientific exchange with team-building activities led by trainer Ben Hartwig. Mornings focused on getting to know one another and strengthening connections within the ECR community, while afternoons were dedicated to science and research projects within SynthImmune. Four poster sessions provided opportunities for participants to present their work, exchange ideas, and explore potential collaborations.
The retreat opened with a welcome address by SynthImmune spokesperson Oliver Fackler and members of the SynthImmune Office, Kathrin Bajak and Laurence Jost. Oliver also joined the participants for the first coffee break, taking the opportunity to meet with early-career researchers and answer their questions.
On the second day, participants elected the new ECR Committee, which will represent the community in the steering committee of the cluster over the next two years.
Congratulations to the newly elected committee members:
- Markus Heiduk
- Eva Müller
- Alisa Puhach
- Ana Sánchez-Férron
- Beeke Tappe
- Martin Uerlich (ECR Representative)
Martin Uerlich was elected as the ECR Representative.

A big thank you to everyone who participated in and helped organize this first retreat! We look forward to seeing the SynthImmune ECR community grow and thrive over the coming years.
