New publication from the group of Dominik Niopek

The lab of SynthImmune PI Dominik Niopek has published a letter in the journal Clinical and Translational Medicine entitled “Bioswitches: Towards programmable, on-demand control of therapeutic proteins”.

In it, the authors discuss how modern biomedicine relies on proteins as functional agents, such as engineered antibodies, cytokines, or CRISPR genome editors, and that these agents are active as long as they are present in the body, which can cause adverse effects such as off-target activity and toxicity. They propose a compelling solution to this challenge, which they call Bioswitches. They are proteins that can be switched on and off by a defined stimulus.
